Research Overview

Tesofensine is a triple monoamine reuptake inhibitor originally developed for Parkinson disease and Alzheimer disease that was repurposed for obesity treatment after significant weight loss was observed in early clinical trials. By blocking the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, tesofensine suppresses appetite, increases satiety, and promotes thermogenesis. In a phase 2 trial (TIPO-1), participants receiving 0.5mg tesofensine lost an average of 12.8 kg over 24 weeks, roughly double the weight loss seen with then-available obesity medications. While not a peptide itself, tesofensine is commonly sold alongside peptide products and is frequently used in combination with GLP-1 agonists for enhanced weight management.
